Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Skerritts uses Building Information Modelling (BIM) to bring clarity, accuracy and collaboration to every stage of a project. By creating detailed 3D CAD drawings, the team provides a complete visual and technical representation of the electrical systems being designed and installed. These models are more than just drawings — they contain embedded data that defines every component, from the size and finish of a door to the exact specification of a cable tray.

This shared model keeps all stakeholders aligned, enabling real-time collaboration and reducing the risk of miscommunication. Contractors, consultants and clients can access the model in real time, allowing them to view, comment and contribute as the design evolves. This shared environment supports better coordination, reduces errors and helps avoid costly rework.

One of the key benefits of BIM is the ability to determine clashes, known as ‘clash detection’. As different disciplines add their elements to the model, such as mechanical, electrical and structural, the system automatically identifies any conflicts. These can then be resolved before work begins on site, saving time and improving safety.

The embedded database also provides long-term value. Once the project is complete, clients can refer back to the model to determine exactly what was installed and where it came from. Whether replacing a component or planning future upgrades, the information is always accessible, accurate and easy to retrieve.

BIM brings together design, data and collaboration in one intelligent model. With real-time access, embedded specifications and built-in clash detection, Skerritts ensures that every stakeholder is aligned from the start, reducing risk, improving accuracy and delivering better outcomes for every project.
